i just ordered an n-gage qd off the net... waiting for it to arrive.
i wanna know though, when i get it for the first do i have to let it just sit there idly charging or can i play around with it while its charging for the first time.

Lets just make sure nothing weird happens and load your battery as long as you can WITHOUT playing on the N-gage (in order to let the battery reach the maximum capacity ) Also when plz let the battery the first 3 times totaly drain empty before charging it!!
Greetz moi.

As far as I know, the Li-Ion batteries doesn't have memory effect, as opposed to Ni-Cd. Mainly, they prefer smaller charges then complete discharges...
quote:The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible.
The main problem with the battery isn't the battery itself, but the power gauge reading of the battery power.
quote:Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge.
You might want to condition the Li-Ion cells, but surely there isn't any memory into it. (this is described in previous posts: 3 full charges with 3 full discharges is called conditionning the pack.) Some believe this is great to enhanced battery life. I think it is a matter of opinion.
I myself charged my battery about 30 minutes when I got my N-Gage QD, and refill it everytime I see its lower then 50% according to the gauge. This being said, I can stay 5 to 6 days without a charge and the device will still run. It turns more at 1-to-2 days if I do intense gaming. Therefore, I would believe that the ritual you guys are describing isn't necessary... Some experts tend to say it even is damagefull to the battery cells.
quote:People have all kinds of strange religious beliefs about the rituals that must be performed to exorcise the Memory Monster. If they were just dancing around their laptop, MP3 player or cordless drill waving incense sticks then I wouldn't care. But they're usually doing unnecessary charge/discharge cycles. Which is bad.
Info on the Li-Ion battery is easily available with google search. I don't know where most of the info on this thread comes from and I have been refreining for months to post otherwise, but memory effect in Li-Ion is just not true. Please do your reading and make your own opinion on the topic.
