Since we have an abundance of new brats again it seems only right to post what they should be doing with smartmovie.
Smartmovie
First you are going to need a copy of smartmovie, how you obtain this is completely up to you if like me you want to pay for this amazing application it will set you back $19.98 (U.S, convert this at will) It can be purchased from here Lonely Cat Games
Load up smartmovie
Click Open and search for the movie/clip etc you want to convert, the mainly accepted types of file are .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .m1s, .dat and finally .wmv
Once your desired file has been found double click it and the screen should now open up back to the previous screen saw when first opened except this time there is a movie loaded in the little window. The top left information in blue shows you roughly how large the file is going to be with the following settings;
Before converting it would be handy to decide where your finished product is going to end up, click 'options' then 'preferences' and select the directory where you want your file to be delivered.
These are your main settings, once these are filled in simply hit the convert button and sit back, kick your feet up and wait for the film to finish, the conversion time with these settings should be roughly half the length of whatever it is your converting - so if it's a large movie may aswell go grab a cup of tea for a while .
Once the conversion is finished you want the movie on your phone;
Hook your phone up by USB cable and locate where your new movie was left. Once found right click and select 'Send To' you should have the option of a new drive at the very bottom, for example mine is the 'H:/ Drive'.
Send the movie on over, disconnect and open up Smartmovie - You may need to perform a scan of your system when looking for the movie once it's found sit back and mission accomplished.

I don't want to make things complicated or anything....
The first codec i used was 3ivx, i wanted anime on my phone. It worked quite good and the subtitles were readable.
Now my 3ivx trial is over (i hate this, i thought codecs were free) and when i play iton my phone (or on my pc for that matter) it will cut off the sound after a few seconds and it will turn black n white i think.
So i tried divx, but it works with presets and stuff, and if i select the phone preset, it will also display 96kbps for the video, estimated file size is twice as large as with 3ivx AND! i can't read subtitles and the overal quality is just crap.
I'm gonna try xvid now but i don't have alot of hope for it as it is also 96kbps

jsut tried it: i don't like it :/ i tried messing around with the settings, ut i just need 3ivx!! :'( My life was perfect with 3ivx boohoo *sob sob*

??? the quality with Xvid is phenominal, btw it buggas up with the wrong codec because your only supposed to be using Xvid, your phone doens't have the right codec to play the movies.

When I try to convert movies with the smartmovie, I get an error saying the following: "Cannot open video file: C:\...hakgtwca1.mpg Please make sure you have installed DirectShow codecs for this file type.
So I installed every directionshow related codec I can find online, and still no luck. What's the deal?

I don't do DVD rips myself so i dont know the full extremities of how it works but dont some discs maybe like the one your using have the option to change from Widescreen to Fullscreen?
Maybe there's some setting in you're program that's made it go to widescreen.

Im a bit confused. I got the converter, and i was attempting to convert a .avi movie, but it doesnt have the option to sellect the Xvid Codec under the video settings on the right. This is where i get confused, it tells me to download the codec on the site, but they are .sis files for the fone... how do i get the codec so i can convert the file? I dont have my qd, im just trying to set this straight for when i recieve it in a few days.
